Greetings, fellow Wildians!
Under prodding from webmaster Don Swaim, I painted the following picture of Oscar about to kiss Ambrose Bierce:
Who, you ask, is Ambrose Bierce? American satirist, Civil War veteran, and master of the short story, he had a popular newspaper column in San Francisco when Oscar was on his American tour. For reasons best known to himself, Bierce took an enourmous dislike to Oscar, and wrote an article about him so full of spleen and bile that even the most sulferous Usenet flamer would stand in awe of it. What Oscar thought of Bierce--if he thought of him at all--is not known.
But Ambrose never actually met Oscar--and if he had, I believe that he would have succomed to Oscar's charm. And since Bierce's good looks were legendary, I suspect that Oscar might have been attracted too. Hence this picture. Enjoy.
